    May 2009 Romantic Ruffles
Ruffles are so very now! With just a fold here, a drape there, fabrics become artful and eclectic. This season, designers are making their mark with signature ruffles at the hip and on the hemline. From skirts to blouses, dresses to handbags, swimwear to eveningwear…this is one trend that all women can wear. As with any trend, remember to not to overdo the ruffle. Moderation is key!

    Rules of Engagement
While ruffles add femininity, they can also add volume to your body. For those who are smaller on top, wearing a ruffled blouse is a great way to add a bit of bosom illusion. If you're curvy enough already, opt for small details on shoes or handbags or just a bit of ruffled trim instead.

    Sexy & Slinky
Ruffles have always been considered an elegant mode of dress, but designers have shown that they can be sexy and slinky too! The brother and sister design team from Down Under, camilla & marc, present two great looks that let you show off your modern style. For fresh, effortless elegance, why not consider their Liberty frock? The two-toned brown and taupe silk halter dress is brimming with ruffles. Pair it with a pair of sexy high heel gladiator sandals, maybe a gold cuff, and ready you are. Looking to enhance the ruffle story? Then opt for lace and ruffles! The designers’ Tabitha frock mixes black lace with a ruffled hem in a hip mini with three-quarter length sleeves. How about contrasting the accessories and going with something chunky and bold, like white ankle strap heels!

    Simple & Sporty
Ruffles also dress up simple silhouettes. Case in point: Kenneth Cole New York’s electric blue knit ruffle dress with twisted shoulder straps. Modern & sporty, it’s a summer staple. This vibrant color looks great on all skin tones. The designer likes it paired with a wispy white cotton trench and white leather platform sandals.

    Flirty & Feminine
Look for ruffle details. They can be demure on skirts, sleeves and collars. Keeping it contemporary, Mimi Turner embraces her ruffled attitude in notable ways! Her mini dress has a zippered shoulder ruffle. The neutral nude keeps the piece feminine. Add a signature piece of jewelry or cool shades. Your friends will be green with envy when you slip into Mimi’s silk and knit blend dress in emerald green, with the ruffle front and center. Accessorize with metallic flats and an eco-inspired accent, something in raffia perhaps. A ruffle or two on a skirt looks very modern, and for summer, a silk blend skirt in white is so very right. To top it off, we’ve got a beautiful robin egg blue sleeveless, silk ruffled top. Daring and flirty fun, here’s a stellar piece -- a short jumpsuit with front flourish! So many choices and we’ve only just begun to ruffle the surface! Go ahead--decorate your summer wardrobe with a bit of fluff and frill. It’s worth the investment.
