    February 2010 Red Carpet Retrospective

    Armani Prive

    Designer: Giorgio Armani
No designer is more synonymous with Hollywood than Giorgio Armani. The silver-haired Italian rose to fame in 1980, when Richard Gere wore his suits in American Gigolo. He practically invented red-carpet dressing during the proceeding decades. Cate Blanchett, Jodie Foster, Julia Roberts, Michelle Pfeiffer, Beyonce, Glenn Close, George Clooney and Clive Owen have all worn his creations. From clothing to eyeglasses, everything Armani creates has a casual-but-chic attitude. The Armani lifestyle is all about looking relaxed while projecting timeless glamour. The Armani Prive collection is his couture label which features elegant, powerful and classic designs.

    Christian Dior Haute Couture

    Designer: John Galliano
Christian Dior's first collection, in 1947, was a shot heard round the world. Dubbed “The New Look,” it harkened back to the excesses of the Belle Epoque and brushed away bad, wartime memories. The collection featured wasp-waisted, full-skirted silhouettes nipped in by boned corsets and fleshed out with hip padding. This international sensation would be the first of many by the young French designer who unfortunately died after a decade of headline-making collections. The label continued, with many talented designers taking the helm, but it wasn’t until 1997 when British designer John Galliano took over that the brand skyrocketed once again. His over-the-top designs and theatrical runway shows are not to be missed. One of the most avant-garde couturiers, Galliano has stayed true to the spirit of Dior and wowed on the red carpet. Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron, and Nicole Kidman have selected his breathtaking, one-of-a-kind creations on some of the biggest nights of their lives.

Spurred by their success, the duo has launched a more casual and less expensive line, Marchesa Notte.

    Yves Saint Laurent

    Designer: Stefano Pilati
The masterful Yves Saint Laurent, who has been called one of the most influential designers of the twentieth century, brought this house to life in 1961.
